Word of the week – 07.09.2020

Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10

The words “Be still and know that I am God” have been so strong in my mind over the past few days. I love these words, because it is a promise that God makes to us – it is a reminder of His very nature as God. He is God – not defined or created by man but like He says to Moses in Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, I AM who I AM” – He is God all by Himself!

Think about it, if you created something today and gave it to someone else to use – if something were to go wrong, the first person they would turn to is you. And this is because they know that you made it, and so you obviously know the problem, and they believe that you also have a solution. You on the other hand are able to assure them that you will sort it out, and they should not worry. This is how I picture myself in God’s eyes sometimes, that as my creator He knows me best and so when I am happy, I am sad, I am worried, I am angry, disappointed etc., He is the first person that I should turn to –  His response to me is that “Sophie, be still and know that I am God”.

To be still is to relax, to stop worrying, and in this context to believe that indeed He is God. To know that He is God means to know Him as God. I like the question that Jesus asked Peter in Matthew 16:15 “But what about you? Who do you say that I am?” This is a personal question, and I like it because it shows that God wants to know and relate with us personally. It is not about what people say about Him, He is concerned about what you say about Him, what you call Him, what you see Him as…..

Psalm 46:10 is one of my favorite verses; I love the depth in the words – that I need to be still and know that He is God! And thus this means I need to know who God is – so that my stillness is based on the understanding of His nature as God!

This week in the words of Travis Greene, “Be still and know that He is God, just trust and know that He is God, He is in control, He is still God”. May this be our reminder this week, that whatever it is that we are going through, good or bad, let us be still because we know that He is God!

A few Sundays ago, we were in church, and I noticed how attending church has changed for me. We get to church, attend the praise, and worship session (thank the Lord our daughter loves music), and sit through the next sessions, a few minutes of the sermon and she wants to

Can I be independent in marriage?

A friend of mine asked me that question the other day. And this is what I told her: Being independent means “not depending on another for livelihood or subsistence”. When I look at the vows we make, the beginning of marriage takes away our independence. However, what varies throughout marriage is

Trusting God is a Narrow Path…

“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it”. Matthew 7:14 When I think about a narrow road, I imagine that the person using that road must be sure that that is the road they want to take. Because it is
