“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it”. Matthew 7:14
When I think about a narrow road, I imagine that the person using that road must be sure that that is the road they want to take. Because it is usually hard to turnaround in a narrow road.
The path is straight because He has clearly laid out what He expects of and from us. He has written in His word, and through the Holy Spirit directs us on what we should do and what we should not do. But also leaves us to make the choice as to whether we will do as He says or not.
The path is narrow because it is not popular, it is not easy to follow. But at the same time, it is open to all but not everyone fits in or chooses to walk in it. As I thought about this verse, I thought about what then shows the path that we are walking. What about our life is proof of the road that we have chosen to take – our fruits.
Narrow means careful, it requires one to be intentional and to be deliberate. An answer of the road/path we are on is evident in the way we live, the way we talk, the way we think – basically who we are.
And I must admit taking the narrow road is not easy, but what makes it worth it is that knowing that God is the one who leads us. He is walking right beside us; He is guarding our every step – He is right there with us!
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6
My prayer for us this month is that as we choose to trust Him by going through the small gate and walking through the narrow road – that we will stand on His word which His promise and we will know that He will keep His word, which is His promise!
