He says, “Be still, and know that I am God…….”
Psalm 46:10
This is one of those verses that is always in my mind, and that I keep reminding myself of when the speed of the world seems to take over. The depth and power of these words get me every time – it is such a reminder of the nature of God. He tells us to be still which means to calm down, to give it over to Him – and the why is because we know that He is God – which means we know that His got this and that because His God He will carry us through.
Last year when watching a sermon by one of my favorite preachers, he elaborated the importance of reading each word in the Bible and noticing punctuation – and that has helped me as I keep learning and studying the word of God. In this verse, the comma indicates a pause – which means that being still is actually an action and so you become still, and this act is based on the faith that He is God.
This past weekend, I was reminded of this verse. It is not very easy when you are going through something – but realizing the power of God gives the heart some warmth. It is important to meditate on the word of God day and night (Joshua 1:8) – I only understood this when I started intentionally studying the word of God, because it is only then that I was able to speak the word of God when the speed of world would seem to take over. There is power in words, and more so power in the word of the Lord, God responds to His word and He honors our faith when we call rely on His word.
Dear God,
This week teach us what it means be still, and know that you are God!
Amen.
Have a blessed week!
